Class 14: A Great And Marvelous Work

Class 14: A Great And Marvelous Work

 I.  AND THE LAST SHALL BE FIRST AND THE FIRST SHALL BE LAST

A.  Jacob 3:125-127—that all may be nourished once again for the last time

B.  I Nephi 3:192-200—JewsàGentiles . . . GentilesàJews

C.  Ezekiel 37:15-20, 21-28—stick of Joseph and stick of Judah made one; everlasting covenant

II.  WHEN SHALL THESE THINGS BE?

A.  I Nephi 4:16-29—fullness of the gospel comes to Gentiles . . . remnant of Lehi’s seed scattered by Gentiles . . . fullness of the gospel goes from Gentiles to remnant of Lehi’s seed . . . they are reminded that they are of the house of Israel, the covenant people of the Lord . . .  and they come to a knowledge of their Redeemer and his doctrine

B.  III Nephi 9:86-93—a sign given by Jesus to the remnant Lehi’s seed—that they may know the time when these things are about to take place:  the gathering of Israel and the establishment of Zion among them

C.  II Nephi 5:29—when they shall come to the knowledge of their Redeemer, they shall be gathered together again to the lands of their inheritance

D.  II Nephi 7:12; III Nephi 7:28-39—role of the Gentiles in the gathering of Israel

III.  A GREAT AND MARVELOUS WORK

  1. III Nephi 9:95-98—words of Christ brought forth to the Gentiles
  2. Isaiah 29:11-32 (II Nephi 11:125-160)—“the Lord God shall bring forth unto you the words of a book; and they shall be the words of them which have slumbered”
  3. DC 2:6—for this very purpose are these plates preserved . . .
  4. II Nephi 12:67-73—my word also shall be gathered in one.

IV.  INVITATION AND WARNING TO THE GENTILES

  1. II Nephi 12:1-52
  2. III Nephi 7:32-45
  3. III Nephi 9:101-106; 10:1-7

With unbelief, rejection of the fullness of the gospel, and pride come many other sins that bring the loss of the fullness of the gospel to the Gentiles and great destructions in their midst.  They become as salt that has lost its savor, good for nothing but to be cast out.  With repentance and obedience comes the opportunity to assist in the taking of the fullness of the gospel to the house of Israel, the gathering of the house of Israel, and the building of Zion with the house of Israel.  The power of heaven is promised to such; even the presence of the Son of God in their midst is promised at that day when the gospel is preached to the remnant of the house of Israel.

V.  HOW ARE WE DOING?

A.  DC 83:8

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Matthew 24:36—Although the days will come that heaven and earth shall pass away, yet my word shall not pass away; but all shall be fulfilled.

DC 4—Now behold a marvelous work is about to come forth among the children of men . . . and lo, he that thrusteth in his sickle with his might, the same layeth up in store that he perish not, but bringeth salvation to his soul; and faith, hope, charity, and love, with an eye single to the glory of God, qualifies him for the work.

DC 38:9–And if ye seek the riches which it is the will of the Father to give unto you, ye shall be the richest of all people; for ye shall have the riches of eternity; and it must needs be that the riches of the earth are mine to give: but beware of pride, lest ye become as the Nephites of old. And again I say unto you, I give unto you a commandment, that every man, both elder, priest, teacher, and also member, go to with his might, with the labor of his hands, to prepare and accomplish the things which I have commanded.  And let your preaching be the warning voice, every man to his neighbor, in mildness and in meekness.  And go ye out from among the wicked. Save yourselves. Be ye clean that bear the vessels of the Lord. Even so. Amen.

DC 50:8d-g

Behold, ye are little children, and ye cannot bear all things now; ye must grow in grace and in the knowledge of the truth.  Fear not, little children, for you are mine, and I have overcome the world, and you are of them that my Father hath given me; and none of them that my Father hath given me shall be lost; and the Father and I are one; I am in the Father and the Father in me; and inasmuch as ye have received me, ye are in me, and I in you; wherefore I am in your midst; and I am the good Shepherd (and the stone of Israel: he that buildeth upon this rock shall never fall), and the day cometh that you shall hear my voice and see me, and know that I am. Watch, therefore, that ye may be ready. Even so. Amen.

DC 64:8

but all things must come to pass in their time; wherefore be not weary in well-doing, for ye are laying the foundation of a great work. And out of small things proceedeth that which is great.  Behold, the Lord requireth the heart and a willing mind; and the willing and obedient shall eat the good of the land of Zion in these last days; . . . behold, I say unto you that Zion shall flourish, and the glory of the Lord shall be upon her, and she shall be an ensign unto the people, and there shall come unto her out of every nation under heaven.  And the day shall come, when the nations of the earth shall tremble because of her, and shall fear because of her terrible ones. The Lord hath spoken it. Amen.

DC 135:3

The promise has been given that no power shall stay the hand of God in the accomplishment of his purposes among his people; and as the church shall move forward in its great work, the fulfillment of prophecy may cause the Saints to tremble at the exhibition of divine power, yet they shall rejoice in the protection of his grace.
